Pseudoscience

When I use DVDs in class it is because they present visual or auditory material not available elsewhere. Such presentations are always accompanied by class discussions.
The highest order thinking skill is EVALUATION. In such activity the student considers what s/he has seen or experienced and then reflects on it in writing. When I do use a DVD/class discussion to present a topic it is always followed up with a REFLECTION assignment. The questions are written on the board so that students have them available as they view the DVD.
These assignments are informal assessments and can usually be completed in class. We even use scratch paper! The number of questions is usually three, with a usual maximum point value of 15. I am interested in understanding how students think about scientific issues.
For today's lesson, these arethe REFLECTION questions:

  1. Rate the DVD from 1 (hi) to 5 (lo);
  2. Do you "believe in" something that might be pseudoscience? YES or NO
  3. IF YES -> What and why?
