The purpose of encouraging scientific literacy in ALL students is so that they will be equipped,
as the decision makers of the future, to make informed choices about the societal issues that involve science, which realistically are most of them. The situation in Haiti clearly demonstrates the fact that no decision makers involved with Haiti over the decades have considered the scientific fact that Hispaniola,
the island it shares with the Dominican Republic, sits on several fault lines;
thousands of unnecessary deaths and untold misery have been the result.
Today in Science we see the NOVA film:
EARTHQUAKE!
which discusses prediction.
And speaking of scientific literacy, there is a WAD QUIZ tomorrow.
Literacy Skills: READING CIRCLES
READING LOG CHECK TOMORROW!
